Founded in 1990 by licensed marriage and family therapist Ronald Lawrence, Community Counseling Center was created to meet the urgent need to provide mental health support for those impacted by the HIV/AIDS crisis when no other local behavioral healthcare organization was willing to do so. At the time, people affected by HIV/AIDS faced not only physical, life-threatening challenges but also severe social stigma, fear, and isolation. In response, CCC became a safe and affirming space where individuals could access compassionate care and counseling without judgment.
The organization has since grown into a comprehensive behavioral health service organization for the entire community. The organization’s evolution reflects its commitment to expanding access to care while staying true to its founding mission of providing a welcoming and supportive environment for those who need it most.
CCC's impact over the past three decades is captured in Ronald Lawrence’s book, Warrior for the Tribe: A Remembrance.
